The Resistance: 1 The Enemy: 0

Yeah, you read that correctly. If you’ve read enough of these news posts, you’d know that I’m referring to the image linking problem I’ve been battling for the last few months. This morning upon checking the access files (which has been a several times per week thing since this started happening), I was surprised to see another large number of referrals from yet another online forum. So, upon some investigation I’d noticed that a random 16-year old kid ‘fell for the bait’ of my current setup (the one with the Perl script which checks referrals and sends a different picture than expected if from an unauthorized source) and tried linking to a Monty Python and the Holy Grail picture hosted here.

It worked. On a larger scale than my testing! smile

Upon my investigation this morning of the referrals, he’d already realized what had happened and found someone else’s bandwidth to steal. It currently looks like he did this around 3-4pm PDT yesterday (08 May)…and fixed it shortly thereafter.

It’d be interesting to figure out what was going on in his mind when he first noticed the ‘picture he wasn’t expecting’ showing up… Ah well, some things we’ll never know.

The Rat Bastards Went Bar Hopping

After the utter and complete finish of the MFP project, Senger, Rowan, and I went out last night to celebrate. Many good times were had, and it is planned to do something of similar nature on a more recurring basis throughout the summer if possible. Sadly, we got to the location where Angie (the fourth of our group) was to be just a little too late. Ah well. She missed a good time. smile
