So, not much new. Got the One-Act 2003 Scrapbooks completed. They look much nicer than last year, and turned out nice. Also got some Letter certificates completed for the veterans of the group…just to show appreciation.

New thing that I did manage to do, though…was add local support for the DICTionary protocol. The server box has dict (client) and dictd (server) services available to it, but I’d never used it. Since we don’t have a real paper dictionary here, it’s kinda nice to have instant online access to this information. So, after some digging and tweaking, I’ve essentially turned the server box into a middle-man query. I built a simple and quick web form (from a free bit of source code online) which I’ve incorporated to be available locally to the machines here. This acts as the portal…allowing any machine on the local network to ‘query’ the online dictionary…through the server box. Basically means people don’t have to log directly into the server in order to make queries.

It’s dorky, but actually quite useful. I haven’t set up dictd, because I really don’t see the need for it right now. I could download and install the compressed dictionary information…and then really lock it up locally, but for now it seems appropriate to just let the occasional query through to someone else’s online dictionary. The economics of having our own dictionary set just doesn’t pan out for the time…
