I’ve made some changes to the News System. Namely the addition of “Events” in my life. In addition to the somewhat stagnant and always ‘past’ news (NEWS!) exclamation points (which are a Good Thing), I’ve decided after much thought to also include Events (noted by the light bulb — IDEA!) — things like birthdays, big happenings, etc. Things I consider important.

I’ve pondered doing this since I introduced the news system. I really like the news system, and like to make it better every now and again. On my Private TWiki installation, my ‘start page’ includes a CalendarPlugin portion of the page which outlines my personal schedule — work times, things due, events, and so on. I have no intention of including all of these things on my MattNews page, but some of them are important. Furthermore, my personal calendar includes text — not just image links. With this news system, from the calendar backend page (where I do the linking which makes the calendar images work) I link to each news topic. On my personal schedule, I don’t create a page for each event. So I include the text instead.

I also have my screen resolution set to 1280×1024, which easily lets me create huge calendars which include all the appropriate text. Not going to happen with this news system.

Anyway, from now on you’ll be able to browse to the appropriate portion of the Events page (by clicking on an Event (IDEA!) icon) to see what’s going on. Just more good information. smile It allows me to ‘fill out’ the calendar with appropriate stuff so it’s not all stuff which has transpired.

In other semi-random news, I also noticed that I need to add the MHotW skin (which makes this web appear how it does with sidebars and such) support to the Search results page. It uses a different skin than the view script, so minor changes need to be done. But probably not until (at the earliest) next week.
